The Kitchen Tent Photography site has launched. There’s still ongoing work on the content, but I just couldn’t wait until next week!

Thanks again to Mannequin at Fractured Toy for helping make the launch even more fun than expected.

  1. why is it known as “kitchen tent photography”?

  2. Thanks for asking, Giselle.
You’re one of the first to ask!

When you were a kid, did you ever make a ‘fort’ or a tent by putting sheets and blankets over the kitchen table and chairs? That’s what I call a ‘Kitchen Tent’.

The Dave Matthews Band has an album titled “Under the Table and Dreaming”; the album title, in turn, is a line from their song “Ants Marching”.

    Dave sings:

    Goes to visit his Mommy
    She feeds him well
    His concerns, he forgets them
    And remembers being small
Playing under the table and dreaming

That line always made me think of what I call a Kitchen Tent. When you’re a kid and you have the comfort and luxury of being able to get lost in your imagination for a while.

I’ve always had this ‘tent’ thing with my wife and best friend, Kelly. No matter what the world would throw at us, we would always know we could find comfort with each other, bundled together close in our ‘tent’.

So all of that kind of rolled together for me to call my ‘photography thing’ Kitchen Tent…
Love, comfort, imagination, creativity, and a reminder to step out of the rat race and keep hold of and also share what’s simple and true.

  3. That is so beautiful. 🙂 Now i understand why you named your site this.. Hope you always feel that comfortable “blanket” around you 🙂

  4. I’m glad I found your blog as well. Simple shot; incredible processing. A fine image:-)
